Happy New Year

Tonight I’m staying in and cooking and drinking and watching some good movies.  It’s my own little tradition as I don’t like to be out on the roads with others who have been drinking.  I may do some cleaning in the evening and getting some things organized, what better night to do that on.

I’ll be making some honey mustard chicken wings, black-eyed peas, cabbage and cornbread.  All foods are for luck and wealth if eaten on New Year’s day, except for the chicken wings – those can be bad luck so I’ll eat them well before midnight.  I’ll also make an orange sherbet champagne punch.

Speaking of luck and superstitions, here are some I found interesting for New Years.  I’m so glad I kissed my boyfriend at the stroke of midnight in his timezone in Afghanistan.  Even though it was still a cyber kiss on instant messenger!  I will probably email him another one when it’s midnight here in Arizona.

Kissing at midnight:   We kiss those dearest to us at midnight not only to share a moment of celebration with our favorite people, but also to ensure those affections and ties will continue throughout the next twelve months. To fail to smooch our significant others at the stroke of twelve would be to set the stage for a year of coldness.

Stocking Up:   The new year must not be seen in with bare cupboards, lest that be the way of things for the year. Larders must be topped up and plenty of money must be placed in every wallet in the home to guarantee prosperity.

Paying Off Bills:   The new year should not be begun with the household in debt, so checks should be written and mailed off prior to January 1st. Likewise, personal debts should be settled before the New Year arrives.

I Am Mr. Roarke, Your Host…

Welcome to Fantasy Island!  Good Lord, remember that show?  For some reason I thought of it when I saw this cocktail.  Haven’t posted a cocktail recipe in ages and thought I’d find something fitting for the summer season and this seemed to fit.  This one sounds yummy to me.

Island Blossom

Ingredients:
– pre-marinate fresh fruit pieces with lime juice and Malibu passion fruit rum
– 1 part pomegranate juice
– 1 part orange juice
– 1/4 part simple syrup
– 1/2 part Soho lychee liqueur
– 2 parts Tezon Blanco tequila

Mix juices, tequila, syrup and lychee liqueur with pre-marinate fresh fruit pieces in a mixing glass. Serve in a rocks glass over ice.

Osama Bin Laden Finally Dead

I’m so glad he died by American hands too.  Navy Seals.  Good job boys!!!

They are considering giving him Muslim rights for his body and I say screw that!  Thousands of Americans who were killed by this man didn’t get a proper burial now did they?  Another funny thing, you don’t see any of the “so-called” pro American Muslims coming out in support.  Mmmm hmmm.  I also saw that some BBC reporter saying that it’s pretty crappy we are celebrating this man’s death.  Come again??  Really?  So did you feel the same way when we were seeing footage of middle eastern countries celebrating in the streets the day 9/11 happened?  Or how about when you Brits found out Hitler was dead?

I’m hearing reports that they gave OBL the chance to surrender and he not only refused but used a woman as a human shield.  What coward piece of shit.  Glad they killed his ass.

And let’s talk about Pakistan….  Interesting.  Oh no…. we are not hiding him.  Oh we will totally cooperate with the U.S.  Mmmm hmmm.  Funny, the U.S. didn’t include anyone in Pakistan in this mission.  They had no knowledge we were doing this and what do you know, we caught and killed his ass.  Had we informed their govt. you can bet OBL would have been tipped off and escaped.

I also don’t get the liberals.  They still seem all sour.  They should be jumping for joy over this news and yet they still bitch.  I saw tweets from them about “how they don’t feel any safer, the world is full of nutjobs”  Yes but this was a justice killing.  It was a long mission.   And it was our Hitler of today and a step in the right direction on Terrorism.  Jeez.  Then I saw a comment, “oh brother, now I’m going to see those flag lapel pins making a comeback.  Great.”  Just for that statement alone, I’m wearing mine tomorrow to work.  What is so wrong with everyone showing patriotism over this???  If you are that irked by patriotism demonstrated over a war victory then get the fuck out of America!  When WWII ended people showed the same enthusiasm .  I just don’t get it, this man murdered thousands of Americans and these people don’t care.  Of course not, because these shitheads didn’t personally lose anyone on 9/11.  It didn’t affect their own personal bubble.

Ha… they are now reporting that they have already buried OBL at sea.  That was fast as hell.  Bastard, I hope the troops pissed on him beforehand.

Kind of weird, my Birthday is the day before 9/11 and today is Rambo’s birthday – the day we got Bin Laden.  A great day indeed.  Just as President Bush said, “We’ll take him dead or alive.”  Soooo glad we took him out.  He’s dead.  He’s finally dead.

We will never forget 9/11.

Thanksgiving Day Plans Update

Since my parents are in Vegas, one of my friends Lisa who just came back from Italy (the one I was cat sitting for) decided to scrap her plans to drive to California to be with her aunt and uncle and prepare a Thanksgiving for her and I.  I thought that was very sweet.  I told her over and over not to cancel her original plans but she insisted.  She said really wanted to do it.

So…. she ordered a turkey dinner from Boston Market for us to enjoy.  Not too glamorous but decent and affordable and includes turkey and the basic sides like stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls and so on.  Plus she is making some extra things like pumpkin pie, lots of appetizers and shrimp and such.  I invited my other friend from work – I’ll call her Jersey Girl but she isn’t feeling up to it.  Lisa and I were bummed but I do get wanting to be alone sometimes.  I’ll try one more time to convince her to come before I leave.

I won’t be heading over there till around 5pm because she said everything won’t be ready till 5:30 pm.  I told her not to kill herself trying to make everything so perfect.  “I know you!”  She laughed and said, yeah you sure do.  I’m the same way so I know she’s trying to make the table look nice, making sure she has enough food, making sure the house is spotless, picking out mood music and cocktails.  lol  I do appreciate the effort though.  I’ll be bringing stuff to make a salad and a coffee table book as a gift.

She has a beautiful home, she’s a great hostess and single like me.  I’m actually looking forward to spending the time there with a nice dinner, cocktails and single girl talk in a cozy house.  It was incredibly nice of her to do this.

Sometimes I feel really blessed.  I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  Good friends who really care about me.  My health.  My parents.  Being employed!!!  Having my home.  And being in love with a great guy.  I will be saying a special prayer this evening with giving thanks to all of those things.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

What Should I Do On The Berfday?

So the birthday of Martini Girl is coming up on the 10th and I was thinking of taking advantage of the freebies this year.  I have a membership to Sephora and on your birthday they give you a free beauty gift.  I think it’s like sample size so it isn’t much.  I think Red Robin gives you a free burger, Denny’s a free meal and so on.  I wish more makeup companies gave freebies like Sephora!  What else is free everyone?

Also, wondering if I should do something this year.  My day falls on a Friday.  Usually I never do anything and it’s a regular day like any other.  I kinda want to do something but have no clue what.  Not to mention most of my friends are far away *wah*.

Any ideas anyone?  Does anyone even still read this blog?  Is this thing on?  *tap tap*

The Blue Martini

Remember that Meetup group I told you I joined called MEOW?  I haven’t gone to any of the events they have had – all of them seem to be in Scottsdale.  But they are having one tomorrow in Phoenix and I RSVP’d on this one.  This one is at the Blue Martini and is only 15 min from my work in Phoenix.  I’ve never been to this place but I’ve always heard good things about it.  And of course a martini bar is cool by me.  Not to mention younger men looking for women my age.  hahaha

I Just Love the Young

They can’t judge anyone’s age for anything.  At the store I picked up some booze and the really young cashier not only asked for my ID but asked if I was at least 21 years old.  I laughed and said, “Uh well over that hon.”  When she looked at my ID she was like “NO way.  Wow.  You have good genes.”  I know I look fairly decent for my age but I know I don’t look under 21.  But she made me smile just the same.  I’m getting lines in my forehead though.  I need me some Botox.
